About
Sean McCotter was born in Missouri. He lived in Missouri with his family of five siblings until he was fifteen, when his family moved to Bozeman Montana, where his desire to capture the beauty he saw around him began his painting exploration.
He now resides in Billings Montana with his own family: daughter Elle, and son Trip.
His Mother, Becky McCotter is a very artistic lady, and his Father, Fred McCotter, a retired Engineer, brings the analytical and application side, both gene traits help him in the pursuit of capturing and painting the marvelous creation around him.
Sean McCotter is self-taught, but owes a lot to many artists throughout the years whom he has studied and learned from their techniques. Sean McCotter has been landscape painting since 2002 by watching art shows on PBS. Once he learned the basics of painting, he continued to explore more advanced painting techniques as he developed his own style of painting. He is especially interested in learning about composition, values, and color mixing, as they apply to the exploration of landscape painting. Sean McCotter learned to paint in oils, but found a medium home with acrylics. He finds acrylics to compliment his style of painting very well, and enjoys challenges and rewards this medium brings to his landscape painting.
Sean McCotter tries to balance his landscape paintings with each piece of nature he paints by staying true to the landscape scene he is trying to capture on canvas, and give the scene as much life on canvas to be enjoyed by the viewer. He hopes it will inspire the viewer to go out and explore the wonderful creation.
